Catasetums goes into dormancy stage during winter and they tend to loose their leaves turning into just pseudo-bulbs. The below plant is in bulb stage during winter and it will sprout leaves once it comes out of dormancy. During dormancy watering should be minimal as the plant will use the water stored in the bulb during its winter sleep.

Light: Bright, indirect to filtered light. Provide shade from harsh midday sun; leaves should be medium green.

Watering (seasonal):

Active growth (with leaves): Water thoroughly and keep evenly moist, then let the top layer dry slightly.

Dormancy (after leaves yellow and fall): Stop watering and keep the plant dry. Resume watering only when new growth produces roots 5–7 cm long.

Feeding: Heavy feeder in growth—use balanced orchid fertilizer at 1/2 strength every 7–10 days; flush with plain water monthly. No fertilizer in dry rest.

Potting & Medium: Small pot with fast-draining mix (coarse bark + a layer of sphagnum on top, or semi-hydro with LECA). Repot at the start of new growth, when fresh roots just appear.
